AYA Sacred Wear: from under 100 Etsy sales to the top 0.4% — and an own store that earns twice as much

How AYA Sacred Wear grew to 28.4k Etsy sales and $1.5M+ in 2024 revenue, and how its own store, aya.eco, reached about 10,500 orders at a $333 average order.

AYA Sacred Wear started in Bali as an affordable handmade clothing brand from India. Today it's a conscious high-fashion label that sells worldwide. We have been its e-commerce growth partner for more than six years, and these are the numbers and the lessons.

The numbers

  • Etsy: from under 100 sales to 28.4k sales, an Etsy Star Seller rated 4.8★ from 6.6k reviews, eight years on the platform.
  • Ranking: in the top 0.4% of all Etsy sellers, according to eRank.
  • Revenue: more than $1.5M across all platforms in 2024.
  • Instagram: grown from 7K to 195K followers in six years.
  • aya.eco, the brand's own store: from its first sale to around 10,500 orders at a $333 average order, which is twice the revenue of the Etsy shop.

Stage 1: make Etsy work

For a handmade brand, Etsy is the best place to start. Buyers are already searching there, and you don't pay for every visitor before you know what sells. We concentrated on what moves an Etsy shop:

  • Listings and Etsy SEO. Titles, tags and attributes written for what buyers actually type, checked against keyword data, not guesswork.
  • Product photography. Consistent, bright images that show the fabric, the fit and the colour honestly.
  • Etsy Ads. Budget for the listings that already convert, not spread across the whole catalogue.
  • Customer service. Fast replies and clear sizing advice. Reviews are a ranking factor, and 6.6k reviews at 4.8★ didn't happen by accident.

Stage 2: build a brand outside the marketplace

On Etsy you rent your customers. A brand people remember lives everywhere else too. AYA's Instagram grew from 7K to 195K followers, and that audience is what made the next stage possible.

Stage 3: an own store that out-earns Etsy

aya.eco has been built twice. AYA designed the look; we built the layout and ran everything else: marketing, conversion optimisation, SEO, hosting and maintenance.

The result was about 10,500 orders at a $333 average order value, twice the revenue of the Etsy shop. An own store gives you higher margins, your customers' emails, and the freedom to tell the full brand story without marketplace limits.

What other brands can take from this

  1. Start where buyers already search. Marketplaces like Etsy, Amazon or Shopee let you validate products cheaply.
  2. Treat reviews as a growth channel. Service quality shows up directly in search ranking.
  3. Build the audience in parallel. Social media turns one-time marketplace buyers into fans of the brand.
  4. Launch your own store once the brand is known. Rebuild it when it stops fitting the business. Rebuilding is normal, not failure.
  5. Measure everything the same way across channels, so you know which platform really makes money.
